Teckids e.V. made the second place in this year's Thomas Krenn Award and won a prize of 2000 € as a voucher for Thomas Krenn's online store. Beforehand, plans were made as to what parts of the infrastructure should be replaced with the hardware to be bought with the prize.

In the first step of the renewal of our infrastructure, the firewall and the backup server in the data center are to be replaced. These machines run on very old hardware that does not get any updates, like for Meltdown and Spectre, and exposes other bugs that even lead to temporary boot failures with recent Linux kernels.

Johanna Schink, 16 y/o and engaged in our free software team, and Tom Teichler, 13 y/o and junior head of our system administration team, received the prize at the ceremony during Chemnitz Linux days 2018. Together, they told the audience a bit about what we will do with the prize.
